New Premium Feature – The Multi-Photo Uploader

A cross platform, browser-based, multi-photo upload RIA (Rich Internet Application) will be available for Premium and Charter Members on Friday (or Saturday).

Like our still-to-matched-by-any-other-community-because-its-just-so-freaking-great Photo Management Tool (Organize My Photos), our new Multi-Photo Uploader will set new standards in the photo community.

Like the oh-so-ever-cool Photo Management, the Multi-Photo Uploader owes its existence to Sean Foushee, Chief Technology Officer of XtremeCamera. His hard work, genius, and dedication to our community have pushed him to create a great web application.

No matter what platform you use to access XtremeCamera, be it Windows, Mac, Linux, as long as your browser can view Flash you’re all set. Of course, you need to be a premium member as well.

We’re working on a video tutorial now, which we hope to offer on the Tutorial Page in the next 24 hours, but in the meantime, here how it will work.

One or Many

Whether you’re looking to upload a single photo or a 100, the MultiPhoto Uploader should be your preferred tool. Well, that is if you want to upload photos to your private gallery(s).

You see, The Uploader, like the Mac Application we’ve offered premium Mac users for several months (now Leopard ready!) uploads your photos directly to your “private space” on XtremeCamera. This allows you to move several photos at once from your local hard drive to your private space on XC. It’s easier than ever to store your photos on XC, or to upload hi-res photos for your clients to view in private (you can even password protect your albums).

First, make sure you have an album to upload to, either a current album or a new one. You can create a new photo album on the same page as the Uploader.

Once you know which album you wish to upload to click the “Select Photos To Upload”. A box revealing the Desktop of your computer’s hard drive will appear. Navigate to the photos you wish to upload and select one or more. You can choose more than one photo by clicking and holding on the Command key (Mac OS) or the Alt key (Windows) and clicking on each photo you wish to upload. You can choose as many as you like, as long as “each” photo is no larger than 3.5MB and your total upload is no larger than 75MB (a huge upload by anyone’s standard!).

Once you’ve selected the photos you then select the album (Sean has even built in a safety feature that stops the upload button from working unless you choose a photo album) and you can review all your choices in a list.

If, after checking the list of photos you discover that you left some out, you can click “Select Photos To Upload” again and add to the upload list. This is especially handy if you are looking to upload photos that are kept in different directories on your local drive.

Once you have your complete list and you’ve checked to make sure all your photos are 3.5MB each or smaller, you simply click the Upload and step back and watch the Uploader work its magic. You can monitor a progress bar while your photos are being uploaded.

You can access the Photo Uploader from the Control Panel, bookmark the page, or access it through your Organize page.
Our multiphoto Uploader is something we have all waited for since XtremeCamera’s inception, so all us here and in Texas are pretty excited about it coming online.

If you’re a Premium Member we hope you’ll try it out and tell us what you think. If you’re a free member and have been looking for the “one more thing” that would convince you to upgrade to a Premium membership we believe this cool new Uploader will convince you. Well, we hope so anyway.

We look forward to all your comments about this new tool.
